Work safely at heights

Our Work safely at heights course will provide you with the knowledge and skills you will need to work safely at heights in accordance with industry requirements. 

This height safety course provides practical training using height safety equipment to acquire the skills to safely work at heights and comply with legislation.

The Working at Height Association of Australia (WAHA) recommends re-certification every two years. – see www.waha.org.au 

Australian Standards for fall protection equipment requires a maximum operating capacity of 136kgs. Equip-Safe provides fall protection equipment to these standards.

  • Legal Requirements and Guidance Material
  • Definition of Working at Heights
  • Fall Restraint v Fall Arrest
  • Pendulum effect
  • Hazards associated with Fall Arrest Harnesses
    • Suspension Trauma
    • Positional Asphyxia
    • Injuries from incorrectly fitted harness
  • Emergency Plan / Rescue Plan

Practical

  • Conduct risk assessment/ SWMS (Safe Work Method Statement)
  • Inspect FIPS (Fall Injury Prevention Systems) and Fall Arrest Harnesses
  • Safe use of Fall Arrest Harnesses
  • Conduct self rescue
  • Use Fall Injury Prevention Systems including: fall arrest harness, ladder, ladder bracket, adjustable lanyard, static line, static line shuttle, industrial inertia reel, adjustable rope lifeline with energy absorber and brake device, anchor points, carabiners, descender, suspension trauma straps

Course requirements

  • Prior to course commencement the learner is required to review the ETI Learner Handbook, all terms and conditions, and policies that apply to this course, found at found at Terms & Conditions/Policies page
  • For all training conducted on Equip-Safe premises, learners must wear suitable work clothing and fully enclosed shoes (Safety boots/shoes are preferable).  All other protective gear, i.e. hard hats will be supplied.

Certification & assessment

A statement of attainment will be issued detailing the unit/s of competency completed. A record of training card will also be issued.
