L2A1: Long Weekends

TTAO Long Weekends Gradient Blue

Welcome to March! (also known as where does the time go?!) This month we are going to be focussing on external activites that you, as an apprentice, might get up to on the weekend. Why? Well read on!

This weekend, here in WA, is a long weekend. Which means a few different things, and some things which might pose a risk to you. So we are going to give you a brief overview of things to watch out for this weekend, and get back to work on Tuesday safe and sound.

Weird Drivers

It’s a long weekend. We know what that means – people ramming far too much into the three days off they have, and driving like maniacs to get there. So, remember to do two things whilst driving this weekend – take it easy and watch out for people who aren’t. Leave yourself plenty of time to get to where you’re going, and you’ll be a-ok. Remember, it’s better to be five minutes late, than to have a speeding ticket, or wind up having an accident. And speeding and other traffic infringements will be even worse with double demerits! So take it easy.

Alcohol

Excess alcohol consumption is something that is a near certainty on long weekends. No work on Monday for some means a two-day bender. Whilst we don’t encourage this, and actively discourage excess drinking, it’s something that you will likely need to be mindful of whilst you’re out and about. People can act very differently under the influence of alcohol, so if you find yourself in a situation where someone is being aggressive at a pub or a party, the best thing to do is remove yourself from the situation. Also be mindful of driving whilst others on the road may be under the influence, and be mindful of how much you’ve had. If you think you’ve had too much, don’t’ risk it, and take plan b home.

Take time to rest

We all know what happens – we have those three days and ram it full of stuff we haven’t gotten to. But remember, it’s a public holiday – take some time to rest and recuperate – it’s what it’s for after all!

Be sun safe

Long weekends, beers on the beach, watching the sunset. We know, it sounds incredible, and that’s because it’s pretty lucky that we get to spend days at the beach, soaking up the sun. But just remember, sun damage is very real. Remember to slip, slop, slap, seek, and slide as best as you can.

So there you have it! A quick guide to what you can do over the long weekend just to relax, recuperate, and most importantly stay safe
