Look Twice, Act Once: Tips to Stay Mentally Healthy in the Construction Industry

Welcome to October (we’re nearly at the end of the year – where has the time gone?) This month we are going to be talking about mental health at work for you, and how to keep mentally fit in what can be challenging environments across the electrical and wider construction industry.
Mental health is a cornerstone of our overall wellbeing. In the hustle and bustle of the construction sector, where tight deadlines and high-pressure environments reign supreme, safeguarding one's mental health becomes paramount. Especially for apprentices, the transition to this demanding industry can be a challenging one.
So with that in mind, here are some tips for those in the industry so you can keep yourself mentally fit.
1. Regular Breaks: Make it a habit to take short, regular breaks. A quick walk or a few minutes of fresh air can rejuvenate your mind.
2. Open Conversations: Communication is key. Discuss your challenges and achievements with your mentors or fellow apprentices.
3. Hobbies & Interests: Engage in activities outside of work. A hobby can serve as a mental diversion from daily stress.
4. Healthy Diet: What you eat impacts how you feel. Consume a balanced diet to nourish both your body and mind.
5. Physical Activity: Regular exercise is proven to reduce stress and anxiety. Even a short daily walk can make a difference.
