Open Bladed Knives Policy Reminder

Why does EGT have an Open Bladed Knives Policy?

In the electrical industry, most tasks have specialised tools designed to perform the job safely and efficiently. Using these tools is not only safer but also more effective than relying on a retractable knife.

Unfortunately, apprentices are frequently reporting injuries caused by knives, often when the task could have been completed more safely with the correct tool.

Over the past three months, EGT has recorded at least five injuries resulting from improper knife use. These incidents have not only required medical treatment and recovery time but have also led to disciplinary action for failing to comply with EGT policies.

This policy aims to prioritise safety, minimise injuries, and ensure that all team members are using the right tools for the job.

What is the correct tool for the task?
