Safety Alert 121 - Reporting

SAFETY ALERT Tile Reporting

Electrical apprentices must actively report to their Host Supervisor and Field Officer  to ensure their health and safety. Reporting helps maintain safe working conditions, ensures correct instructions are followed, allows early intervention for injuries and addresses hazards before they cause incidents

Who to report to?

Apprentices should report all incidents and hazards to:

  • Host Supervisor – their direct supervisor on-site
  • Field Officer – their EGT representative
  • WHS Team or EGT admin – if the Field Officer is not available

Key reasons to report:

There are many key reasons why all incidents and hazards must be reported as
soon as possible:

  • Safety compliance: It ensures we are following industry regulations and
    company policies
  • Medical attention: To provide you with medical attention as soon as possible
if you are injured at work
  • Record of incidents: When incidents and hazards are reported, records are
kept to identify trends, identify past incidents, and identify how to reduce risks
  • Hazard identification: When hazards are reported they can be fixed to
reduce risk within the workplace and avoid injuries
  • Support: Allows Field Officers, Supervisors, WHS Team, and any other
involved parties to provide the required support
  • Early intervention: When incidents are reported immediately, early
intervention can be applied to reduce injuries getting worse

What incidents to report?

EGT apprentices must report ALL incidents, no matter how small the incident might
be. Many small incidents can lead to bigger issues if not dealt with. For instance, if
you mildly strain your shoulder while on-site and assume it’s not serious, you must
still report it, as untreated injuries can worsen over time.

Here is a list of things you should look out for to report:

  • Any safety concerns, or hazards
  • Incidents, injuries, or near misses – no matter how small
  • Changes in work conditions that may affect your safety
  • Workload concerns
  • Lack of, or incorrect, supervision
  • ALL personal or non-work-related injuries/health issues. If you get injured outside of work you must report it as soon as possible and receive 100% medical clearance before returning to work

How to report?

How EGT apprentices should report incidents or hazards:

  1. Immediately report the incident or hazard to your supervisor. You will be
required to fill out an incident statement/report or hazard form for your host
  2. Contact your Field Officer and report the incident as soon as possible. You will be sent an EGT incident statement form.
  3. Use your RAC book to report any hazards you notice on-site and provide them to your Supervisor and your Field Officer.

If in doubt report it to your Supervisor and your Field Officer

Keep your workplace safe

By reporting all incidents and hazards correctly you are actively contributing to making your workplace safer and ensuring not just your health and safety, but the health and safety of your whole worksite.
