L2A1: Long Weekends (Part 2)
And here we are in April! Welcome back to Look Twice, Act Once for this month! And with April, comes the Easter long weekend – which starts today.
So we wanted to remind you of a few things about the long weekend, just to remind you to be safe and watch out for other people around this time.
Bad Drivers
It’s a long weekend. We know what that means – people ramming far too much into the four days off they have, and driving like maniacs to get there. So, remember to do two things whilst driving this weekend – take it easy and watch out for people who aren’t. Leave yourself plenty of time to get to where you’re going, and you’ll be a-ok. Remember, it’s better to be five minutes late, than to have a speeding ticket, or wind up having an accident. And speeding and other traffic infringements will be even worse with double demerits! So take it easy.
Alcohol
Excess alcohol consumption is something that is a near certainty on long weekends. No work on Monday for some means a two-day bender. Whilst we don’t encourage this, and actively discourage excess drinking, it’s something that you will likely need to be mindful of whilst you’re out and about. People can act very differently under the influence of alcohol, so if you find yourself in a situation where someone is being aggressive at a pub or a party, the best thing to do is remove yourself from the situation. Also be mindful of driving whilst others on the road may be under the influence, and be mindful of how much you’ve had. If you think you’ve had too much, don’t’ risk it, and take plan b home.
School Holidays
Unlike the last long weekend we recently had in WA, this one marks the start of the school holidays. So as you’re going about your long weekend, remember there will be families, school kids, and small children around because they’re not at school. And this will be the case for the next couple of weeks. So whilst you don’t have to contend with school zones, just remember that there may be children near a worksite – especially if you’re working residential. So keep an eye out for curious hands and kids during this time!
Be sun safe
Long weekends, beers on the beach, watching the sunset. We know, it sounds incredible, and that’s because it’s pretty lucky that we get to spend days at the beach, soaking up the sun. But just remember, sun damage is very real. Remember to slip, slop, slap, seek, and slide as best as you can.
So, there you have it. A few reiterated and a couple of new points for you to remember this long weekend. Be safe, and we will see you back at work on Tuesday!
