Electrical Safety On Site

Electrical hazards are a serious business on any construction site, especially here in Oz. We're here to remind you of some key tips to keep yourself safe from the shocking hazards that can come with the job.
Check before you Connect
Inspect all electrical tools and equipment before use. Frayed cords, dodgy plugs or cracked tools? These are a big 'no-no'. Only use equipment that's in top-notch condition. And if you’re unsure about something’s condition – ask your boss!
Avoid Water
Electricity and water are worst enemies. Always ensure your hands and your environment are dry when dealing with electrical equipment. It's the difference between a successful day on the job or a potential trip to the emergency room.
Use a Residual Current Device (RCD) protected circuit or plug in box
This handy device can prevent dangerous electrical shocks by cutting off power when an imbalance in the electrical flow is detected. It's not just a good idea, it's law on all Aussie construction sites.
Keep your power source safe
where your using an extension lead or just the appliance lead make sure its not going to get cut ripped or damaged (i.e. stuck in a metal door with a metal frame and steel cladding) possibly leading to an electric shock
Education, Mate
Proper training in handling electrical equipment is a must. This includes learning how to turn off the power in an emergency, how to handle tools correctly, and how to identify potential hazards. Don't be shy about asking for more training - safety first, always!
