An electrical apprentice’s safety depends on reporting incidents and hazards as soon as they happen. Delayed reporting has recently led to injuries becoming worse and risks not being controlled in time. If an incident occurs report it immediately.

Who to Report to?

Report all incidents and hazards to your:

  • Host supervisor – your direct supervisor on-site
  • Field Officer – your EGT representative
  • WHS Team or EGT admin – If your Field Officer is not available

Why Immediate Reporting Matters

There are many key reasons why you must report all incidents and hazards as soon as possible:

  • Fast medical attention – prevents injuries from getting worse
  • Early intervention – small issues don’t turn into serious injuries
  • Hazard control – risks can be fixed before someone else gets hurt
  • Accurate records – delays affect investigations and outcomes
  • Support – ensures you receive the right help straight away

Late reporting = higher risk, delayed treatment and potential complications.

What Incidents to Report?

EGT apprentices must report ALL incidents IMMEDIATELY. No matter how small the incident may seem, you must report it, many small incidents can lead to bigger issues if not dealt with.

Here is a list of things you should look out for to report:

  • Any safety concerns, or hazards
  • Incidents, injuries or near misses – No matter how small
  • Changes in work conditions that may affect your safety
  • Workload concerns
  • Lack of or incorrect supervision
  • ALL personal or non-work related injuries/health issues – If you get injured outside of work you must report it as soon as possible and provide 100% medical clearance to EGT prior to returning to your host employer

How to Report?

The following is how to report incidents or hazards:

  1. Immediately report the incident or hazard to your supervisor – You will fill out an incident statement/report or hazard form for your host
  2. Contact your Field Officer and report the incident as soon as possible – You will be sent an EGT incident statement form to complete as well

If you notice any hazards on-site, use the RAC book and provide them to your supervisor and your Field Officer. Hazard report pages are in the back of your RAC book.

If in doubt report it to your supervisor and your Field Officer.
