Electrical Group Training (EGT) is committed to maintaining a safe, professional, and compliant working environment for all apprentices. This Safety Alert serves as a reminder of our Uniform and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements, including when attending CET and TAFE, and highlights recent updates to the policy.  

All apprentices are required to always comply with the minimum Uniform and PPE Policy requirements while: 

  • At work
  • Attending CET
  • Attending TAFE 

The minimum uniform & PPE requirements outline that apprentices must wear: 

  • Long-sleeve hi-vis shirt (over 90% cotton, sleeves rolled down and buttoned)
  • Long navy trousers (over 90% cotton – shorts are not permitted)
  • Steel-capped protective footwear
  • Gloves (unless a risk assessment determines otherwise)
  • Glove clip attached to belt
  • Safety glasses worn or kept close at hand at all times 

Failure to meet these requirements may result in disciplinary action, including suspension from work, CET, or TAFE.

All uniform collection and re-issue is by appointment only and online booking is mandatory. Please ensure you book ahead, appointments can be booked using the following link:

 Policy Updates – Effective January 2026 

Prescription Safety Glasses 

If you require prescription lenses for work, you are now eligible to purchase one pair of single-vision prescription safety glasses every alternate year (every 2 years). All purchase of single vision prescription safety glasses from an optometrist. Any additional features or upgrades (such as multifocal lenses or tinting) are at the apprentice’s expense. The main reimbursement details include: 

  • Keep your receipt and follow the normal reimbursement process.
  • Where conditions are met, apprentices may claim reimbursement of up to $300 every alternate year (all inclusive).
  • If the cost is less than $300, only the actual amount paid will be reimbursed.

Protective Footwear

The requirement for lace-up boots has been removed, protective footwear must:

  • Meet AS/NZS 2210.3:2019 (or equivalent)
  • Have steel or composite toe caps with Electrical Hazard (EH) protection
  • Comply with all other policy requirements

The reimbursement amount for protective footwear has been updated to $120.

Action Required 

  • Ensure you are wearing the correct uniform and PPE at all times
  • Book uniform shop appointments online before attending
  • Review the updated policy if purchasing footwear or prescription safety glasses
